Citigroup Inc., the biggest U.S. bank, may slash 5 percent of its workforce, or close to 17,000 jobs, as the company seeks to lower annual expenses by more than $1 billion. Citi is coming off criticism from investors that their expenses are too high. Compared to other banks' profitability, Citi is underperforming.
