Democrat Nancy Pelosi was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, representing the America's disatisfaction with the way Bush Administration is running things. Another significant development is Ms. Pelosi is now the third most powerful person in the United States. She is next in line to run the country after the V.P.
With the Democrats now in a position to shake things up, what will happen next? In my opinion, not much. Both the Republicans and the Democrats will be in a tug of war. The Democrats have yet to come up with a viable solution to the Iraq war. Stocks of oil and pharmaceutical companies didn't seem to be affected by the rise of the Democrats.
I think the markets will treat the election results as a non-event. The more pressing issue for investors is the health of the U.S. housing market.
Congrats Ms. Pelosi
